Sisters Sonia & Sandra Alvarado co-founders of Accessories L.A and creators of the LIGHTWALKER belt, are Emmy Award winners with a 15- year background in television production as well as corporate video and media experience. The sisters are also entrepreneurs who apply their creativity to other fields, including designing this practical and stylish accessory.
The idea was born out of necessity. Sonia Alvarado is a dog lover and rescuer, who learned from 
Cesar
Millan (The Dog 
Whisperer), the importance of walking her four large dogs every
day. She walks the dogs even if it means
doing it at night. She had her hands full tackling leashes and a walking stick. With no free hand for a flashlight, she twisted
her foot on sidewalk obstructions because she couldn’t see them. The problem
sparked an idea for a solution. Sonia imagined a belt that would light the ground
as she walked. This was on a Thursday night
(Nov. 11, 2010). Two days later, her sister Sandra, was wearing and testing the
first prototype. Less than a week later,
the two sisters formed an official partnership and started a small business
(www.AccessoriesLA.com) to market the product.
The sisters are animal rescuers who currently have 6 dogs and 3 cats between them. Sonia and Sandra Alvarado applied their creativity to design this attractive, easy to use, light-weight, affordable and energy-efficient lighted belt. They also tied their business mission to their goal of promoting and supporting animal rescues.
“We want to increase safety, create business opportunities for ourselves in these difficult times, and continue our commitment to helping animals by donating a portion of net profits to animal rescue organizations,” states Sonia Alvarado.
